USAW Unveils Club League, Cuts to Team Fees
COLORADO SPRINGS - USA Weightlifting is thrilled to introduce a new way that clubs can compete in 2025 through the Club League. The Club League gives all weightlifting clubs the opportunity to earn points at USAW national events throughout the year with a rolling leaderboard. The top men’s and women’s clubs will earn the USAW Club League trophy, with the trophy presentation occurring at the first USAW national event of the following year. This new team competition structure will impact all USAW National Events, except for the National University Championships, and brings more opportunities for clubs to shine on the national stage.
Along with the Club League creation, competing for a club just got easier - and cheaper. Starting in 2025, club owners will no longer need to pre-register their teams or pay for team registration at national events. Club competition will be FREE, and athletes registered under a club will automatically be included in the team competition. Team fees for university teams/clubs are also being cut.
Key Changes to Know:
- Automatic Club Participation: While athletes registered with a club will automatically be included in the team competition, club owners will need to ensure that athletes have the correct club affiliation on their Bars profile before the Verification of Final Entries of each event.
- Club League Leaderboard: A leaderboard will be kept up-to-date on the USAW National Events page.
- After each event, the top clubs will be recognized publicly, and the clubs with the most points will have the opportunity to claim a banner provided by our signage sponsor, SignsRX.
Points System:
- The top 5 female athletes per club will score points for their team.
- The top 5 male athletes per club will score points for their team.
- Points are awarded based on the IWF TCRR system (1st place = 28 points, 2nd place = 25 points, 3rd place = 23 points, 4th place = 22 points, 5th place = 21 points, 6th place = 20 points, etc.).
Event Scoring:
Points will accumulate across a variety of major national events, including:
- North American Open Series 1
- Masters Nationals
- National Youth Championships
- 13 & under
- 14-15yo
- 16-17yo
- National Junior Championships
- National U23 Championships
- National U25 Championships
- USAW National Championships
- North American Open Series 2
- North American Open Finals
Awards and Recognition: At the end of the year, the top-3 men’s and women’s teams will receive the following honors:
- 1st Place: “2025 Winner USA Weightlifting Club League” trophy
- 2nd Place: “2025 Runner-up – Best USA Weightlifting Club League” trophy
- 3rd Place: “2025 3rd Place – Best USA Weightlifting Club League” trophy
- The trophies will be presented during the first event of the following year to maximize attendance and celebrate the achievements of the top clubs.
What Does This Mean for Clubs?
- No More Registration Hassles: Simply register your athletes under your club, and they will automatically compete in the team competition.
- More Opportunities for Recognition: Accumulate points through multiple national events to secure your club’s place in the USA Weightlifting Club League standings.
Important Notes:
- The Glen Middleton Award for Youth Development will continue at the National Youth Championships, and teams must register to compete for this award separately. More information is available in the National Events Policies document.
- The National University Championships team competition will follow the standard IWF method for competition, with no changes from previous years aside from team registration now being free.
