2024 Texas-Oklahoma WSO Championships to Run Parallel with NAOS2 in Fort Worth

COLORADO SPRINGS - USA Weightlifting has approved the running of the 2024 Texas-Oklahoma Weightlifting State Organization (WSO) Championships in conjunction with the 2024 North American Open Series 2 in Fort Worth, Texas, Aug. 29-Sept. 1. The Texas-Oklahoma WSO Championships will be available to all registered Texas-Oklahoma WSO athletes. All athletes who are qualified to compete at the NAOS2 must register for that event and will automatically be added to the WSO Championships to be eligible for awards in both competitions.

“As president of the Texas-Oklahoma WSO, I am beyond excited for the opportunity to host the 2024 Texas-Oklahoma WSO championships in conjunction with the 2024 North American Open Series 2,” said Ray Harkness, TX-OK WSO president. “Not only will this be a well-run event with a quality experience for all, but it allows those who don’t normally qualify for national-level events to experience a national event. Hopefully it motivates them to keep striving for those qualifying totals.”

Any Texas-Oklahoma-affiliated athletes who have not attained a qualifying total for the North American Open Series 2 must register here. Athletes who register through this event link will not appear in NAOS2 results and will not be eligible for NAOS2 awards. All coaches who wish to attend the event to assist WSO Championships athletes must complete a coach registration for NAOS2.

Event information and registration costs will mirror the North American Open Series 2. The preliminary schedule will be available 48 hours after the end of the regular registration period. Final verification of entries will be Monday, Aug. 19 from 10:00-10:30 a.m. Mountain on the homepage of usaweightlifting.org

How it works:

  • Pricing and registration deadlines will mirror NAOS2.
  • All TX-OK athletes who have qualified for NAOS2 must register for NAOS2 only. They will automatically be added to the WSO Championships roster.
  • Any TX-OK WSO athlete who has not attained a valid qualifying total for NAOS2 will need to register from a separate sanction in BARS. Entries from this sanction will not appear in NAOS2 results or be eligible for NAOS2 medals.
  • All coaches must register as a coach for NAOS2. Because this is running at a national competition venue, coaches must meet the eligibility criteria for coach registration: (Membership, USAW Level-1 or higher, SafeSport, USADA Coach Advantage, WSO Ref, background screen). Parents of youth athletes may access the warm-up room with evidence of SafeSport training.
  • Athletes competing in the WSO Championships will be mixed into the NAOS2 schedule based on bodyweight category and entry total.  Awards for a category/division will be available once final or after an A session completes (whichever happens first). This is the same procedure for youth, junior and masters competitors at all North American Open competitions.
