USA Weightlifting Returns to Fort Worth with an Unprecedented Three-Year Extension to NAOS2, Announces Daytona Beach for 2025 Finals
COLORADO SPRINGS - After the success of the 2024 edition, USA Weightlifting is thrilled to announce a historic partnership bringing the North American Open Series 2 to Fort Worth, Texas, for an unprecedented four consecutive years. The 2025, 2026, and 2027 events will be held in the vibrant city, cementing Fort Worth’s reputation as a premier destination for weightlifting excellence. The next event of this groundbreaking agreement will take place Aug. 28-31, 2025.
"Fort Worth has proven to be an outstanding host city for USA Weightlifting events," said Pedro Meloni, USAW Director of Events & Sponsorships. "This four-year commitment reflects our confidence in Fort Worth’s ability to deliver an exceptional experience for athletes, coaches, and fans. Texas is home for a large part of our membership and we are excited to build on our shared success."
Repeating a formula that worked in 2024, and in partnership with the Texas-Oklahoma WSO, the TX-OK WSO Championships will run together with NAOS2 in 2025.
“The Texas-Oklahoma WSO region has a long, storied history with weightlifting that has produced several Olympians,” Ray Harkness, TX-OK WSO president, said. “The WSO is excited to once again host our WSO Championship alongside USAW. We believe the joint venture was very successful last time and are looking forward to bringing the national-platform experience to even more of our WSO members in 2025”
Adding to the excitement, USA Weightlifting is proud to announce that the 2025 North American Open Finals will take place in Daytona Beach, Florida, Dec. 4-7, 2025.
Daytona Beach holds a special place in weightlifting history as the site of the first Women’s Weightlifting World Championships in 1987. Returning to this iconic location underscores USAW’s commitment to honoring the sport’s rich heritage while continuing to propel it forward. This time, USAW and the United Masters Weightlifting Federation (UMWF) will co-host the federation’s World Championships in the city.
“Daytona Beach has a rich history in weightlifting, and we’re excited to build on that legacy by hosting the 2025 UMWF World Championships alongside USAW's North American Open Finals," said Michael Choi, UMWF General Secretary. "This is a unique opportunity to celebrate the past while inspiring the future of masters weightlifting."
In Florida, athletes will be able to sign up to compete in just the North American Open Finals, just the UMWF World Championships, or both events. Masters athletes competing at the UMWF World Championships will perform on their own platform(s) and both events will run concurrently.
Qualifying totals for all events will be posted on Feb 1, 2025. Registrations for these events will also open on Feb 1, 2025.
