Reeves Shatters World Records in Doha

DOHA, Qatar - If you don’t already know the name Olivia Reeves, you need to familiarize yourself. The 19-year-old from Chattanooga, Tenn., set three junior world records Sunday afternoon while representing Team USA at the IWF Grand Prix II in Doha, Qatar. Competing in the 71 kg A session, Reeves snatched 115 kg and lifted 147 kg in the clean & jerk for a 262 total. All three marks are new 71 kg junior world records, and the total moved Reeves up from fourth on the Olympic Qualifying Ranking at 71 kg to second. Reeves earned a trio of bronze medals across the board and finished one spot above teammate Katherine Vibert (112/142/254, fourth place).

Reeves joins fellow junior American Hampton Morris in collecting medals so far at the Doha Grand Prix. Morris earned bronze in the clean & jerk after lifting 170 kg to push his total to 292 kg. Both marks are new American junior and senior records.

Reeves was a perfect six-for-six on the platform Sunday and registered seven total world records throughout the competition. The snatch, clean & jerk and total junior world records were set at 112 kg, 142 kg, and 253 kg entering the day. Reeves set back-to-back records in both the snatch and clean and jerk after progressing through 106-113-115 in the snatch and 140-144-147 in the C&J for 255, 259 and 262 totals. As pointed out by BarBend’s Jake Dickson, Reeves’ 147 kg clean & jerk is the heaviest competition C&J ever completed by a non-super heavyweight American woman.

For her part, Vibert progressed through 109 and 112 kg in the snatch and 137 and 142 kg in the C&J. She tied her career best snatch, set a new C&J personal record by four kilograms, and raised her lifetime best total by five kilograms.
